Extra-articular distal tibia fractures: To plate or nail? A comparison
نویسندگان
چکیده
High energy trauma such as road traffic accidents, are a common cause of lower extremity fractures. Tibia fractures the second most fractures, and distal tibia deserve special attention due to relatively lesser amount necessary fracture, propensity for complications, nonunion, malunion, infections, skin cover complications. In this study, we compare discuss outcomes two well-established modalities surgical management extra articular tibia, intramedullary nailing, plate fixation.

Extra-articular proximal tibial fractures: nail or plate?
The surgical goals for treating proximal tibial fractures are to restore articular congruity, the mechanical axis, and knee motion while avoiding soft-tissue complications. The fracture pattern should be correctly identified and understood. For fractures with minimal intra-articular extension, fracture fixation with an intramedullary nail can decrease the risk of infection because it uses a sma...
متن کاملUnion Following Biological and Rigid Fixations of Distal Tibia Extra-articular Fractures
Background: Distal tibia fractures are among the most common bony injuries, with a significant rate of nonunion anddelayed union. There are multiple methods for the management of distal tibia fractures. Among the plating methods, there are bridge plating and compression plating techniques. There is still a lack of evidence about whether one methodhas a higher rate of union than...
متن کاملComparison of intramedullary nail and plate fixation in distal tibia diaphyseal fractures close to the mortise.
BACKGROUND In this study, we aimed to compare the functional and radiological results of intramedullary nailing and plate fixation techniques in the surgical treatment of distal tibia diaphyseal fractures close to the ankle joint. METHODS Between 2005 and 2011, 55 patients (32 males, 23 females; mean age 42 years; range 15 to 72 years) who were treated with intramedullary nailing (21 patients...
متن کاملTreatment of distal tibia fractures with intramedullary nail or plate: A meta-analysis
Objectives: To evaluate the outcome of intramedullary nail and plate fixation for the treatment of extra-articular fractures of the distal tibia and to determine whether there are sufficient objective data in the literature to compare the two methods. Methodology: A comprehensive search of all relevant articles from Jan 1975 to Dec 2011 was conducted. Two reviewers evaluated each study to deter...
متن کاملIntra-articular fractures of the distal tibia
In a study of 23 intra-articular fractures of the distal tibia of which 18 were re-examined after an average follow-up period of 5.4 years, two major fracture patterns were identified: type A, a rotational pattern, caused by low energy trauma and type B, a compressive fracture pattern caused by high energy trauma. Type B fractures could be divided into three subgroups: 1) An isolated fracture o...
